Heavy Metal – Detox Treatments
Environmental and industrial factors expose you to high levels of heavy metals every day, including the food you eat and the air you breathe. Some of these metals are good for our health in small amounts, such as zinc, copper and iron. But overexposure can be toxic, causing cell destruction and poisoning. It can be fatal, as in Wilson’s disease.
Depending on your level of exposure, medicines given intravenously under medical supervision can remove these toxins. These drugs bind to metals, a process called chelation. Your blood, urine and hair can be tested to measure toxicity.
In addition to chelation therapy, a natural complementary therapy such as “heavy metal detox” can be done. Some dietary options that include foods that are electrically attracted to help remove the metal from your body can also accompany you through the therapy process. Certain foods can help you detoxify by removing heavy metals from your body. Eating foods high in vitamins and minerals can have protective effects for those exposed to heavy metals. These are phytotherapeutic agents such as cilantro, garlic, blueberries, spiriluna, chlorella, green tea. Glutathione, alpha lipoic acid, high doses of vitamin C and ozone therapies are the therapies we use effectively in heavy metal and detox treatments.
